The Bad Sides of AI Ethics

Ethics is often perceived as too abstract, impractical, confusing, or overly complex. Yet, it is more important than ever. In this international and interdisciplinary project, we aim to systematically identify and better understand the gaps and limitations of current ethical approaches and methods in addressing AI-related challenges.

To foster collaboration between the University of Zurich and the University of Oxford, we developed a project proposal for the UZH Global Funding Scheme and an additional proposal at the University of Oxford.

The project aims to establish an interdisciplinary and international working group that will come together for either one large workshop or two smaller workshops to explore negative attitudes and misconceptions surrounding ethics across different disciplines, examine what different stakeholders need and expect from AI ethics, and develop novel approaches and communication strategies for ethicists. The outcomes of the workshops will inform a follow-up proposal to expand the project and provide the basis for a collaborative publication (position statement).
