Arlette Roman Almanzar
Dr. Arlette Román is a human rights lawyer from the Dominican Republic and a postdoctoral researcher at ETH Zurich’s Chair of Work and Organizational Psychology (WOP) in the Department of Management, Technology, and Economics (D-MTEC). She conducts qualitative and quantitative research to explore AI ethics, responsible innovation, and human-centered technology development, with a focus on providing empirical evidence through experimental approaches on the influence of the technology developer on design. She holds a PhD in Sustainable Business, with a focus on responsible AI design, from the University of Mannheim, and an MSc in Public Policy from the University of Bristol. Her research has been published in leading journals such as AI and Ethics and Management Information Systems Quarterly (MISQ). Arlette has consulted for Generali Investments, SAP, and Daimler, where she developed frameworks for technology adoption, AI privacy, and ethical lobbying, as well as co-design recommendations for USDA-funded technology initiatives. She has also held policy leadership roles at the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Vice President of the Dominican Republic (DR), and the Ministry of Women in DR. Arlette serves on the executive board of the Global AI Ethics Institute and is an inclusion policy advisor for AI at GENIA Latinoamérica supporting equitable innovation across the region. A Konrad Adenauer Stiftung scholar and former curator of the World Economic Forum’s Global Shapers hubs in Santo Domingo and Berlin collaborator, she brings a transnational lens bridging law, ethics, and emerging technologies across Latin America and Europe.
